With »It's Yours, It's Mine«, FOTOHOF presents an overview of the extensive body of work by Austrian artist Mafalda Rakoš. Her projects, most of which unfold over extended periods of time, centre on questions that emerge from a perspective combining photographic documentation with anthropological inquiry. Portraiture serves as the recurring aesthetic and conceptual point of departure for artistic explorations that investigate the potential of photography to engage with complex social discourses.

In Mafalda Rakoš’ work, the image of the Other is created through an expanded perspective. In dialogue with her protagonists and co-authors, she moves beyond the literary, scientific, and artistic tradition of the first-person narrative. The collaborative process that unfolds brings together elements of documentary practice, art therapy, performance, and anthropological research in an effort to render something inherently intangible—the thoughts and emotions of individuals—visible against the backdrop of broader systemic, economic, and historical contexts, thereby extending the possibilities of the photographic image.
